Not living in Denmark has certain disadvantages for a Dane that wants Danish food. One them is Remoulade. It can best be described as a cross between Relish and Tartar sauce. We use it on many dishes such as a topping on Breaded Sole, or sometimes open faced sandwiches. But one thing we have come to love it on is a Danish Hotdog! Many years ago I was in Copenhagen at the train station having just come from my Danish hometown of Vejle ( the mainland) and rushed straight to a hotdog cart for my polser. (hotdog) I asked the attendant to put “remoulade” on my hotdog and he looked at me with shock. “We don’t put remoulade on a hot dog!” he said. I sheepishly apologized and took the regular toppings. Today, there isn’t a stand in Denmark that doesn’t have remoulade on hand. How times change! This is not the original recipe but a “cheat” that I can make in minutes and is a decent stand in.The recipe is dead simple and I have given you the basic ingredients, but you can add or subtract to your own taste. Please watch my video to see exactly how I make it. I hope you enjoy.
