Kimbo’s BBQ Burger – No Barbecue Needed!

Making a Delicious Burger Without the need for a BBQ

I know everyone has their own favourite burger recipe and that there are many recipes out there. This recipe is for those that don’t have a BBQ and for those that do! I am lucky enough to have 2 BBQs but sometimes I don’t feel like firing up the Q for just a couple of burgers. And if you do want to use the Q this recipe will ensure that you get a juicy, light and tasty burger for the whole clan. Simply substitute the grill for the pan. Either way, I am sure you will find this a real winner!

Makes: 6 200 gram patties Time: 1 Hour 30 minutes Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients for a Juicy and Flavorful Burger:

  • 1000 gr. (2.2 lbs) regular ground beef.
  • 2 large eggs.
  • 8 gr. ( .25 oz.) black coarse pepper.
  • 15 gr. (.5 oz.) seasoning salt.
  • 100 gr, ( 3.5 oz.) caramelized diced onion .
  • 8 gr. (. 25 oz.) garlic powder.
  • 50 gr. ( 1.75 oz.) Dijon mustard.
  • 40 gr. ( 1.25 oz.) Red top Maggi.
  • 80 gr. ( 3 oz.) Panko bread crumbs.
  • 50 gr. (1.75 oz.) mayo.
  • 2 dashes of liquid smoke. ( or to taste)
  • BBQ sauce.
  • Aged cheddar.
  1. Peel apart ground beef into bowl. (pls. see video) It is important not to over work the meat if you want a light juicy burger.
  2. Whisk eggs together and add to bowl.
  3. Add all other ingredients.
  4. Using 2 forks gently fold and incorporate all ingredients together with the meat. (again, don’t over work it.)
  5. Preheat oven to 350 F. ( 175 C.)
  6. Make patties into 200 gr. ( 7oz.) each.
  7. Place patties in oven on baker’s tray with screen on top of tray for 17 minutes. (allows fat to drain)
  8. Pull patties out and place in preheated frying pan for 3 minutes. Put a dollop of BBQ sauce on top with a little ground pepper. (at this point you can use your BBQ if you prefer.)
  9. Flip burgers and cook for 2 minutes more with more BBQ sauce. At this time I place aged cheddar on top of burger. (optional)
  10. After 2 minutes place burger back in oven to finish melting cheese. I then place Brioche buns alongside to toast.
  11. After cheese is melted pull patties out of oven along with buns.
  12. I then smear the smoked mayo on the bottom of the bun and build burger with add ons according to taste. Hope you enjoy one of the juiciest burgers ever!
